Scare Crew Productions, Inc. (“Scare Crew,” “we,” “us”) is a nonprofit organization in Wallingford, Connecticut. We operate this website at scarecrew.org and present the Trail of Terror, our nonprofit haunted attraction in Wallingford. Event information and tickets are at trailofterror.com.

This policy explains what information we collect on scarecrew.org and when you interact with us as a Trail of Terror customer. Volunteer applications are collected on our related site, stagefright.scarecrew.org.

Information we collect

You can browse most of this website without giving us your name or email address. We collect information in these situations:

  • Email. If you write to info@scarecrew.org, we receive your email address, your message, and any details you choose to include.
  • Press list. The press page asks for a name and email address so we can send news and press updates. That form is submitted to our mailing service at postoffice.trailofterror.com.
  • Volunteer applications. “Apply” and “update your information” on the volunteer page open stagefright.scarecrew.org. We use the details you submit there to review applications, manage the cast, and contact volunteers.
  • Analytics. We use Fathom Analytics to count visits. Fathom does not use cookies and does not build advertising profiles. It records aggregated information such as pages viewed, referral source, browser, device type, and country. It does not store your IP address.
  • Server logs. Our hosting provider may keep ordinary technical logs, such as IP address, browser type, and the page requested, to operate and protect the site. We do not use those logs to identify you for marketing.

How we use information

We use information to:

  • Reply to messages and press inquiries.
  • Send the updates you asked for, and process unsubscribe requests.
  • Review volunteer applications and run the volunteer program.
  • Understand how the website is used so we can improve it.
  • Operate the Trail of Terror, deliver tickets, and answer guests.
  • Protect the site and the event, comply with the law, and keep records we are required to keep.

We do not sell personal information. We do not share it for cross-context advertising.

Customers of the Trail of Terror

The Trail of Terror is an outdoor nonprofit event in Wallingford, Connecticut. Guests interact with us online, by email, and in person at the event. trailofterror.com publishes dates, tickets, the FAQ, and the guest warnings.

  • Ticket orders. Tickets are sold online through ScareTicket at trailofterror.scareticket.com. We do not sell tickets in person at the gate. ScareTicket receives what it needs to complete the order, including your name, email address, the date and time you selected, and payment information. We use the order to send your tickets, look up an order when you ask, and email you about that order, including weather closings, rain dates, and any refund or transfer that applies.
  • Ticket alerts. If a night is sold out, you can leave an email address on that date’s page to be told if tickets become available.
  • Guest email. Questions about the event go to info@trailofterror.com. Lost confirmations, order lookups, and date or time changes go to ticketsales@trailofterror.com. Include your name, email address, and, for an existing order, the order number and purchase date. We use those messages to reply. In September, October, and November a reply can take longer because of the volume of guest email.
  • At the event. Volunteers and staff admit your party, direct the line, and keep the Trail safe. Entry can include an electronic security screening and a check of bags, purses, and similar items. We use what we see for admission and for the posted guest rules. You do not need an account on scarecrew.org to attend.
  • Social media. You can follow or message the Trail on the networks linked from trailofterror.com. Those companies process the conversation under their own policies. We use messages you send us to answer you.

We use this customer information to run the event, deliver and support tickets, answer you, and protect guests and volunteers. Payment card numbers are handled by the ticketing service, not typed into scarecrew.org. You can look up orders with the email address you used at checkout.

Who we share information with

We share information only with service providers that help us run the site, the event, and the organization, and only for that purpose. Those providers include our website host, Fathom Analytics, the mailing service that delivers the press list, ScareTicket for ticket sales and order email, and the host of the volunteer application site.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or if we need to protect Scare Crew, our volunteers, our guests, or the public.

Fonts, video, and other sites

Pages load typefaces from Adobe Fonts (use.typekit.net). Adobe may process technical data, such as an IP address, to deliver those fonts. Adobe describes that processing in its Adobe Fonts privacy policy.

The About page embeds a YouTube video. If you play it, YouTube and Google may set cookies and collect information under Google’s privacy policy.

Links to social networks and charitable organizations leave this website. Their privacy practices are their own. trailofterror.com is our event site. ScareTicket is our ticketing service. Each processes the information described above when you use it.

Cookies

This website does not set advertising or analytics cookies. Fathom Analytics works without cookies. Adobe Fonts and the YouTube embed may use cookies or similar technologies when their content loads. Your browser settings let you block or delete cookies.

How long we keep information

We keep email correspondence, mailing-list records, and Trail of Terror ticket and guest-service records for as long as we need them to respond, deliver the event, send the updates you requested, and meet legal and accounting duties. Volunteer records are kept for as long as needed to administer the program. You can ask us to delete information as described below. We may retain a limited record of the request itself, and we may keep order records that tax or accounting rules require.

Your choices

You may:

  • Unsubscribe from the press list using the link in those emails, or by emailing us.
  • Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it.
  • Stop volunteer communications by contacting us. Leaving the cast does not automatically erase records we must keep.
  • Ask us to stop a ticket-availability alert, or ask about the personal information tied to a Trail of Terror order, by emailing ticketsales@trailofterror.com. Weather and order messages about a ticket you bought are part of that purchase.

Email info@scarecrew.org or, for a ticket, ticketsales@trailofterror.com. We may need to confirm that the request comes from you.

Children

This website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. The Trail of Terror does not admit infants or children under 5. An adult who buys tickets may include minors in the party. If you believe a child has given us personal information directly, email us and we will delete it.

Security

We use reasonable safeguards to protect information we hold. No website or email transmission is completely secure.

Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top of this page will change when we do. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
